A loan helped to purchase different supplies for the betel leaves shop.

Sabita's story

Sabita is a 44-year-old woman who is married to Phani, 62 years old. They have five children. Three of them are students and the other two children are engaged in business. Sabita and her husband both are illiterate and can only sign their names. She lives in a kaccha house (made of straw and mud) at Raipara in Dhupguri with her family. Sabita is a hardworking housewife who is always concerned with her family’s wellbeing, and her husband is busy with his own betel leaves shop. Her husband is unable to earn much so that she can lead a decent lifestyle. Even sometimes, they are deprived of food, so she decided to take a loan to invest in her husband’s business by buying necessary supplies like different kinds of betel leaves, betel nuts, lime, sweet ingredients, etc. to prepare betel leaves nicely. She knows that the villagers are fond of betel leaves after their laborious work, and so she wants to buy different kinds of ingredients for the preparation of betel leaves in her husband’s shop. It will enable them to earn a profit by selling betel leaves in her area to a large extent. She also hopes to build a concrete shop for betel leaves through the profit of their business, and their financial condition will also improve. In that way, she can spend enough money for her children’s higher education. Sabita is too much grateful to BJS (Kiva’s partner) as well Kiva for funding her loan.
