Julius's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support
A loan helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar charging set and a weighing scale.
Julius is 29 years old and is married with one child. He earns his income through the sale of crops and livestock, and he receives a monthly wage as a Community Knowledge Worker (CKW). CKWs are trusted community members who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases and agricultural tools. On his land, Julius grows maize, beans, cassava, vegetables, Irish potatoes, ground nuts and bananas. He also has sheep, pigs and chickens. Julius has served as a CKW for the last two years, and he looks forward to renewing his CKW contract for the next three years. As a CKW, he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, which will help them to improve their crop yields and increase their incomes. With the additional money he will earn as a CKW, Julius will start up a business that will supplement his income from farming and be able to meet school requirements for his children. His biggest dream in life is to own maize and cassava milling machines that will help farmers add value to their produce before sale.
