Sorie Ibrahim's Group's story
The teachers shown in the photo work at a secondary school in Kenema, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. School teachers usually come to Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT) to apply for loans. These loans empower them to meet certain financial needs that they could not meet with their salaries alone. Some of the teachers use these loans to pay school/college fees, either for themselves to pursue further studies or to pay for their children's school/college fees. Some borrowers invest such loans in businesses while others buy pieces of furniture or a plot of land for future home construction. Other uses include buying home building materials. At the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan using their monthly salaries. It is their school's bursar who is directly responsible for making the deductions to repay the loan on their behalf. Sorie is the featured leader of this group of school teachers. Born in Segbwema, in eastern Sierra Leone, the thirty-six-year-old is single with two children who attend primary school. Sorie has been a school teacher for ten years. He is pursuing further studies in college. He is going to use his share of this loan to pay for his college fees.
