A loan helped to purchase apples.
Diako Group's story
The group DIAKO is composed of six women, all married, who average 32 years of age and four children each. The women live in nuclear families in the HEREMAKONO CENTRE district of Bougouni City. They know one another through ties of community, friendship, and commerce. To bolster their financial capacity for running better businesses, they joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso, where they are now on their first loan. This group of women does commerce in fruit, such as apples, as does KOROTOUMOU, who is the woman sitting in the middle in the photo. She intends to use her loan to purchase 2 boxes of apples from Bougouni wholesalers. Accepting cash or credit, she makes her sales retail to a mixed customer base at the market and out of her home. She envisions making an average monthly profit of 40,000 francs CFA that will be invested in her work and used to pay back the loan.
