Matiya is a married man, age 38 years with six children, four of whom attend schools. He lives in rural setting with his family, and looks after his parents because they are very old and need someone's support to earn a living. He deals in a retail shop business, carries out agriculture where he grows tomatoes, beans and maize on a large scale, and does produce business as his side business. He started his business in 2005. He works seven days a week and 12 hours per day. He started his business to develop and earn a living. He has acquired this loan to purchase more stocks for his retail shop. His retail shop clients are local residents from his village and his produce and agricultural businesses traders are from the city. His hopes are to be the leading supplier of tomatoes, maize, and beans in his village, and to enlarge his retail shop up to the level of a wholesale. The challenges he faces are price fluctuations and many customers taking long to settle their debts. He describes himself as an honest and hardworking man who encourages lenders to continue helping business people and train their clients about loans and businesses.
