María Alejandra's story

María Alejandra comes from the community of El Roble in the municipality of El Jicaral, where she has lived for 15 years. She used to live by the river El Tamarindo, but the hurricane Mith destroyed her house and a new one was built for her and her two children in this community. Her life has been difficult being a single mother. She spent many years working in Costa Rica to save money and buy what she owns today, and to open her business to support her family. Her butcher shop is located in her house. She buys the pigs and then sells the meat and the pork rinds that she makes to all the people in the community. María Alejandra counts on the help of her younger brother, who is in charge of slaughtering the pigs. They do this twice per week and start working at 5am. María Alejandra has found out about Kiva lenders who lend through Ceprodel to people with limited resources. She needs working capital to buy three pigs to respond to the high demand of December, and expects lenders to support her request. For this she would be eternally grateful.
