Delfina's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy construction materials to build a house.

Delfina's story

Delfina (22 years old) and her husband Juan (23 years old) have 3 kids: Catalina is the oldest (5 years old), her brother Gaspar (3 years old) and her little brother Fabian who is 8 months old. They currently live in the San Juan Cancun municipality of the state of Chiapas in Southern Mexico in a one room wood house. In their small indigenous community with 282 inhabitants, 242 speak an indigenous language and just 58 speak good Spanish. According to government statistics, just 102 people in the community have work and children school classes are held on a not established schedule. Delphina’s parents left them a small plot of land where they sow beans and maize. Sometimes this is not enough to eat, and that´s why they have to find jobs outside the community. This is a challenge since when they leave to find work, they do not have a place to sleep and must make the most of what they can. While the men works outside, the woman and the children collect some herbs and wild fruits to eat. They know that with the support from Habitat for Humanity Mexico and a loan for their housing, they will be able to build a house where to live with a better life quality. They say that the fact of knowing that they will be able to rest after their work day and have a clean place for their children is something they are looking forward to.
