Daniel Maligie's Group's story
Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva based in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone is very pleased to present to you this group of teachers from the city of Makeni, in northern Sierra Leone. Together, they have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to apply for a loan of 19,100,000 Sierra Leonean leones (SLL) in order to meet their most immediate and pressing financial needs. Some will use this loan to buy a plot of land for the future construction of a dwelling house, some will use it to buy house building materials, and others will use the loan to invest in business and to pay school fees for their children. At the end of each month, they can easily repay the loan using their salaries. It is their school’s bursar who is directly responsible for doing the deductions and making the repayments on their behalf. Daniel, who is pictured on the left, is the featured leader of this team of teachers. He was born in the city of Makeni 43 years ago. He is married to a tailor, and the couple has seven children who are attending primary, secondary and tertiary academic institutions. Daniel is a school teacher and has been in the teaching profession for 14 years. He is requesting a loan of 3,000,000 SLL in order to pay school/college fees for his children.
