Benkadi (Entente) Group's story
The Benkadi Group is a group of women in the Darsalam district of the city of Koutiala who live in large traditional families with their husbands, children and other relatives. They are on average 38 years old, married and have at least six children. This group of women sells a variety of goods, such as clothing, cosmetics, sundries, etc. To increase the size their businesses, the members of Benkadi Group decided to join Soro Yiriwaso's loan program, where they are on their fourth group loan. Ms. Adam is sitting in the middle of the above photo with her cosmetic soaps and blues (a household product used for washing fabrics) around her. She plans to use her loan to buy ingredients to make soap and blue. She purchases these products at the market in Koutiala and makes her sales at home and in the market to a diverse clientele. While other members of the group have achieved an average profit of 110,000 FCFA this season, Ms. Adam expects to achieve 115,000 FCFA. In addition to repaying their loans, the women of the Benkadi group use a portion of their revenues for personal expenses and to increase the their businesses operating funds.
