Balvina's story

Balvina is 49 years old. She lives with her husband in the district of La Matanza. The people there engage in agriculture, trade and cattle raising. The district is located in Morropon province, two hours from the city of Piura on the northern coast of Peru. For the past year, she has made a living selling beer and “chicha de jora,” a home brewed fermented corn drink. Her business is located in her home. She explains that she does this work in order to contribute, along with her husband, to household expenses. She has requested a loan of S/. 4,000 to stock her business by buying supplies to increase production of “chicha de jora” and beer. Another part of the loan will used to upgrade her shop so that she can have a more pleasant place to serve her customers. This will increase demand and generate more income for her family.
