Kotognogontala Group's story
The seven members of the group Kotognogontala are married women who average 36 years of age and have five children each, living mostly in monogamous families at Ouayerma I, one of the popular districts of the city of Sikasso, the third administrative region of Mali. They are on their fifth loan with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to meet the needs of their customers. Sira sells lettuce and onions in this group of women of Kotognogontala. She is sitting in the far left position in the photo. She plans to buy with the loan 28 baskets of lettuce and three 50-kg bags of onions which she'll resell from home to a clientele consisting mainly of women, paying in cash. She plans to earn an average monthly income of 42,500 FCFA, part of which will be used to repay the loan with interest, and the rest will be savings.
