Fatima Asuncion's story

Fátima is a 29 year old woman who lives in her own house in Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas. The city is very commercialized and productive. It's hot, humid climate favors the development of tourism as well as agriculture and livestock raising, which strengthen the economy of the province. Also it is an important portal for the interchange between the Andes and coastal regions of Ecuador. The Taschia culture who flourished in this land is well-known. Fátima is a single mother. One of the most difficult things for her to overcome was the separation from her husband while her child was still very young. From this time came the idea of opening a business to get the family ahead and be able to school her daughter who is now 8 years old. Fátima dreams of seeing her as a professional. Fátima with the help of her parents only managed to finish her primary schooling. Six years ago Fátima started to sell ice-cream and shoes. Little by little she created capital. Later with these savings she bought computers for the internet cafe that she has been operating now for two years. Her business is located next to a school and so she has lots of customers. Fátima has come to Fundación Alternativa because of it's good reputation for the service and attention it provides it's clients. She is asking for a loan to buy a copier and a ring binding machine which will be a great help to her business as clients request these service frequently. This investment will increase her revenue and she can offer her child a better lifestyle so that nothing stands in her way to get ahead. Fátima feels very grateful that they opened their doors and gave her the opportunity to improve the quality of her life, trusting in her entrepreneurial spirit.
