Virgen De Lourdes (Jipijapa) Group's story
The communal bank Virgen De Lourdes comprises eleven women who meet biweekly in the canton of Jipijapa, which is very well-known for its vast coffee plantations. The coffee from this region has an incomparable taste. The region is also known for its cuisine and the warmth of its people, who work in different fields like agriculture and trade in general. Karina Consuelo is one of the members of this group. She is 31 years old and lives in a common-law marriage. She and her partner have three children, who are ages eleven, five, and three. The two older ones are in school. Her husband is a farmer. Karina Consuelo is a very good wife and mother who is requesting this loan in order to help her husband with his work. They grow corn, peanuts, and some vegetables. They are currently harvesting their corn and will use this loan to hire help from laborers. This will allow them to store the corn for a few months before selling it for a better price, since current prices are very low and selling now would result in great losses. That is why this loan will allow them to store it and eventually sell it at a reasonable price that will report a profit for their family's wellbeing. This loan will be used to pay for labor during the corn harvest. She has belonged to the communal bank from the beginning and enjoys it because of the help she receives from the bank. Her dream is to see her children finish school and become upstanding people. The small picture depicts a member who was not able to be present when the group photo was taken.
