Fanny Edith's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped buy chickens and pigs, and expand sheds where she raises them.

Fanny Edith's story

Fanny lives alone in the canton of Puerto Quito, in the province of Pinchincha, one of the most visited places in Ecuador. It has mighty waterfalls and rivers, and dense forests. Enterprising and adventurous people promote tourism through extreme sports and tours in the outdoors. Agriculture and animal-raising are also common ways of earning a living. Tropical fruit and vegetables grow well in the climate there, and the produce is highly valued nationally and internationally. Fanny earns her living raising and selling different kinds of chickens. She started the business on her own initiative and with a small investment she made the business profitable. She decided to expand and bought more chickens. Amongst the most difficult tasks is care of the baby chicks because they are susceptible to diseases such as smallpox and flu. Fanny’s dream is to position herself as a distributor of chickens, eggs, nutritional food, and farm animals on a national level. As a first step in fulfilling this dream, she needs a loan to buy more chickens as well as expand and improve the sheds where she raises the chicks. She is also thinking about buying a pair of pigs to fatten and then sell in the local market. With the loan Fanny expects to make more money to continue investing in and gradually growing her business until she realizes her dream and improves her standard of living. She is grateful to Fundación Alternativa and Kiva for their help in providing the necessary money to help her with such an important step in her life.
