Sabenty Trader 55 Group's story
Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you members of the “Sabenty Trader 55” group. These are small-scale entrepreneurs who have come to SMT/Kiva lenders to apply for a loan of SLL 800,000 each in order to invest in their respective businesses. Isatu is the featured leader of this group of entrepreneurs. She was born in Port Loko 39 years ago. She is married to a trader, and the couple has two children who are attending primary and secondary school. Isatu sells palm oil (the most popular cooking oil), onions, margi (used to give sauce a sweet taste), salt, pepper, etc., and she has been doing this business for six years now. With the help of this loan, Isatu and her group members will be able to expand their respective businesses, make more sales and consequently improve their living conditions. Isatu will use her share of the loan to buy palm oil, onions, margi, salt, pepper, etc., in bulk to add to her current stock.
