Fermin's story

Fermín is 49-years-old and married with three children the ages 18, 16, and 14. He is an artisan who uses large reeds, a very hardy plant that requires much manual labor to use it. He lives in the community of Chilaya Grande, the touristic center of the Department of La Paz where he offers the public his reed craftwork such as chairs, ornaments, etc. The majority of the inhabitants of the island make a living through fishing and tourism. This loan is his first from this institution. Fermín is going to use the loan for the purchase of construction material for the construction of his house and also for the purchase of reeds to do his work and satisfy the demands of his clients. Fermín confronts challenges in his business that are sometimes due to the lack of materials for his handicrafts. Fermín is a person with the desire to excel. He is happy and grateful to the institution for its support since this is the only income he has to support himself.
