A loan helped to purchase a cow.

Shavleg's story

Shavleg is a 33-year-old married man. He lives with his wife, three children and mother-in-law in a small village of Terjola district. His mother-in-law is provided with a retirement pension. His children go to the local school. The only source of income for the family is a small vineyard. Shavleg produces wine and sells locally, but this is not enough for 6 member family. The family belongs to the subsistence poor category and gets pension from government. Shavleg decided to purchase a cow and start producing dairy products. The Start Up program, which is a joint initiative with Kiva and Credo enables him to get a loan of 1000 gel for purchasing a cow. As the cow is purchased, his wife will milk it every day and will produce cheese to sell. They will sell cheese as well as use it to feed the family.
