Mirika's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to purchase a mobile phone, solar-charging set, and weighing scale so that she may provide vital farming information to her community.
Mirika is 40 years old, and she is married, with eight children. She earns her income from the sale of crops and a monthly wage as a Community Knowledge worker (CKW). On her land Mirika grows maize, cassava, beans, and bananas as well as rearing chickens. Community Knowledge Workers are trusted community members who provide agricultural data and advice to rural farmers in their local area including information about the weather, market prices, crop diseases and agricultural tools. Mirika has served as a CKW for the last two years and now looks forward to renewing her CKW contract for the next three years. As a CKW she will use the materials in her business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar-charging set and weighing scale) to share vital agricultural information with farmers of her village and see that they adopt improved farming practices. With the additional income she will earn as a CKW, Mirika will expand her banana-growing project and be able to educate her children up to the university. Her biggest dream in life is to become a successful farmer and mother in her community.
