A loan helped to buy steers.

Kanikey's story

Kanikey is a 60 year old widow. After her husband's death, she alone raised their 7 children in addition to running her own business. Kanikey has a secondary level education, and her family's main source of income is from her animal husbandry business, which she started 21 years ago with a purchase of 1,000 somi (KGS) worth of cattle. As a result of her hard work, today Kanikey has 2 milking cows, 1 horse, and 5 sheep. Her monthly income comes to 5,000 somi (KGS). With an aim to developing her business further, Kanikey applied to microfinance bank Bai Tushum & Partners for a loan of 130,000 som (KGS) to increase the size of her herd by buying steers. Kanikey plans to invest the profits from her loan in increasing the size of her herd even further.
