A loan helped to plant more sugarcane.

Abeterine Group Kashagali's story

Medard is a 33-year-old married man with four children, all of whom attend school and whose school fees he pays. Medard is the man in the red shirt on the far left of the photograph. He is a peasant farmer who grows sugarcane for local gin brewing as his major source of income. He also grows other crops for personal and commercial use. Medard's group has applied for a loan of 400,000 Ugandan shillings, and he will use his portion to expand his sugarcane plantation by planting more acres that will bring greater returns. His dream is to buy a vehicle to make transporting his sugarcane from the plantation easier. Medard is faced with a problem of limited capital and the price fluctuation in the local gin market. He needs funding to see his business expand and yield more profits.
