Yanis Del Carmen's story

The members of the communal bank Organized Women meet in the canton of Rocafuerte every fifteen days. Rocafuerte is known for its delicious sweets made by the locals, recognized throughout the country. This is where Yanis lives. Forty-eight years old, she is married, and she and her husband have a 16-year-old daughter who is in her fifth year at the secondary school. Her husband is a businessman. Yanis is a hardworking woman who enjoys working side by side with her husband to get ahead. They sell fruits and vegetables in a stand in the Manta market. They work every day. He works from 5:00 am until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. She starts a bit later, arriving immediately after sending their daughter to school, and works only until mid day, when her daughter arrives home from school. They purchase their merchandise from some wholesalers who set up in the market, and some goods they get from Rocafuerte. This loan will be used to continue investing in their business of purchasing fruits and vegetables. Yanis is a founding member of the communal bank, and she is very pleased that thanks to these credits, she has been able to expand her business. She dreams of running a shop in her home and of seeing her daughter become a professional.
