A loan helped to pay for a cow.

Marine's story

Marine lives in Haghartsin Village in Tavush Region, and jointly with her husband, has been engaged in agriculture for many years. Their livestock currently includes cows, pigs, piglets and chickens. Near the village where Marine and her family live, they own a plot of agricultural land, where they cultivate corn and potatoes and grow different types of fruits (plums, nuts, apples, and pears). Marine and her husband work really hard to gather good a harvest, sell it locally and sustain their living. They have an 11-year-old son, who attends school and sometimes helps his parents with cattle breeding. Marine has taken a loan from a financial institution before, but because of the family's poor conditions, she wasn't able to pay it back. However, over these years of tireless work, she was able to own her farm, which is profitable enough to cover monthly payments. Marie has now been approved for a loan within the framework of a new joint initiative between Kiva and SEF International. The second-chance loan program provides loans to people who have bad credit history behind them and have no access to credit products. With the loan's help, she plans to purcahse a cow and use its milk in cheese production. Let's help this hard-working family to prove that everybody can overcome life’s difficulties through hard and devoted work.
