Nelida Sthela's story

The “Nueva Ilusión” communal bank meets in Calí every two weeks. Calí is located in the parish of Colon in the city of Portoviejo. This area is known for its hardworking people. Many of them make a living working in agriculture and raising cattle.

Nelida is 36 years old. She is married and she has four children who are 18, 17, 14 and 11. They are all studying. One child is in university and the rest are in school. Her husband is a merchant.

Nelida is a housewife who has to earn her own means of support. With these earnings, she can help her husband with the household expenses. She sells sheets as well as Yanbal and Belcorp products (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes, and women’s accessories). She works three days a week for two to three hours. She sells her products on credit and she is paid on a weekly basis. She has had this business for eight years and it is going very well. She sells perfumes and creams most often since they are very good.

This loan is for purchasing sheets, perfumes, creams and cosmetic. She has been in this communal bank for four years. She likes the bank because the loans have helped he expand her business.

Her dream is to purchase a vehicle to sell her products.
