Bougoura, Région de Mopti, Mali / Agriculture
Benkadi 5 Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!
A loan helped to buy farm inputs, seeds, small agricultural equipment, and to cover the cost of plowing.
Benkadi 5 Group's story
The seven members of the Benkadi 5 group are married women who are, on average, 42 years old with four children each. They all live in traditional families in Bougoura, one of the villages of the Yangasso commune, in the Cercle of San (fourth administrative region of Mali). They have joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to successfully carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. This is their fifth loan with the institution, and their previous loans have been duly repaid. Setou, a member of the group, grows groundnuts. In the photo, she is in the standing row, first from the left. Setou plans to use her loan to buy some farm inputs, seeds, small agricultural equipment, and to cover the cost of plowing to maintain 1.5 hectare (3.7 acres) of land. After the harvest, she will sell her crop in her village and at the Kimparana market, to a customer base consisting of men and women. She is expecting to make a profit of 170,000 CFA francs at the end of the growing season. This profit will allow her to repay her loan and to help her husband with the daily expenses.
