Yanuncay (Cuenca) Group's story

The “Yanuncay” communal bank consists of 11 women who work in different activities that enable them to pay the household expenses and get ahead with their families. The members are friendly, gentle, and always maintain their charisma still keeping their traditional culture. They live in the city of Cuenca, a place full of nature and colonial architecture. Cuenca has been a World Cultural Heritage Site since December 1999. Its cuisine is varied so that it captivates the palate of all the visiting tourists. One of the members of the communal bank “Yanuncay” is Rosenda, who likes the group very much because of the support and integration that exists as they are all good friends and they share great moments at each meeting. Rosenda is 61 years old, married and through this relationship has four children, all adults, married and independent. Her husband is a cabinetmaker, and works in a carpentry shop that he owns. Rosenda has been working as a teacher for 38 years, a time that has been very rewarding as she has taught many children. She has seen some of them grow up and become professionals, and this has made her very proud. She is going to invest the loan to buy wood for her husband’s workshop that he can work on in his free time and will also buy construction supplies for home improvements. Her dream is that the family business continues to grow.
