Fatou's Group's story
This group comprises 21 women who are relatives, friends, and neighbors who get along well together. Their main work involves farming and small-scale commerce. Fatou, the group's representative, is 32 years old, married, and a mother of five children, of whom three are girls. She sells cloth, incense, fruit, porridge, and beignets, and she grows peanuts and beans. She has been running these businesses for several years. In the photo, she is standing at the far right with her hand raised. With her loan, she would like to purchase a basket of mangoes, 5 of thin fabrics, 20,000 francs of incenses, and some millet for making porridge and beignets, so as to increase her income. She puts her profits into savings at the 'banc villageois', and she also uses her profits to pay her tontine dues and to buy food for her children.
