Rose Wanzuu's story

Rose is a student at Strathmore. This is her story. I am Rose from Malindi, Kenya, a town along the Indian Ocean. I come from a needy family of four headed by a father who is a waiter in a tourist Hotel. I live in a society where education is highly degraded and traditions given first priority. This is characterized by early marriages of girls at premature ages, high rate of HIV/AIDS and drug and substance abuse. This is very disheartening as the society continues to lag behind as many young people succumb to the vices. Coming from such a society gives me the strong will to make it in life and give back to my society. However, this will be only a dream because of the financial status of my family, thus I result in turning to KIVA for a loan that will enable me to successfully acquire university education at Strathmore University. Upon the completion of my education I intend to give back to my society by starting an organisation that will strive to highlight the need to eradicate early marriages. Secondly I intend through the organization to educate the society on the negatives of drug and substance abuse, thus creating a difference in the society. I trust that the KIVA loan will make my dream a reality. It is my commitment that I will comply with the terms and conditions governing the Kiva loan for the betterment of the organisation at large.
