Sofía Pascuala's story
Sofía is a member of the Victoria del Portete communal bank. She lives in the Victoria del Portete parish in Cuenca. This parish has large, lush plains that are favorable for raising cattle and farming. Its people are known for their kindness and charisma. They still maintain the culture and traditions of their villages. Sofía, age 33, is married, and they have three children, ages 14, 10, and 4. Her first child is in high school, and the other two go to an elementary school in the area. Her husband works as a day worker. They do not have their own house. Therefore, they rent where they live. Sofía spends time at home doing the household chores. However, she also raises chickens, guinea pigs, and cattle. Three days a week she works in agriculture, cultivating other people’s land. At times, she is also called upon to wash other people’s clothes. She will use the loan to buy a cow and feed for her animals. Her goal is to buy a piece of land and to build her little house there.
