Djiguisseme 1 Group's story
The seven members of the Djiguisseme 1 group are married men who on average are 37 years old, with two children, all living in traditional families in Foh, one of the villages of Sikasso, in the 3rd administrative region of Mali. They cooperate with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution to carry out their agricultural activities during the rainy season. They are on their sixth loan with the institution and past loans have been repaid in full. The crop they have selected is corn and Adama, standing third from left to right, will use the loan to buy inputs, seeds and pay labor to maintain 7.5 acres. Production is sold after harvest at the Sikasso village market to a clientele composed of men and women. He expects to achieve an average profit of 450,000 FCFA per growing season. This profit will allow him to pay off his loan and also help the enlarged family with daily expenditures.
