Yohana Del Carmen

Yohana Del Carmen, age 35, is a single mother with three minor children under her care. She is from León, which is located in the western part of the country. In her free time she likes to enjoy quality time with her children, and she makes them food that is typical of the region like ‘gallo pinto’ [rice and beans]. Sadly, due to the lack of financial resources, she was not able to enroll in the university. However, she would have really liked to have studied for a nursing career. Thanks to her spirit and her desire to get ahead, she has a food store in her home. It is a small store that sells food products in small quantities. She sells packets of coffee, packets of shampoo, rice, cooking oil, sugar, milk, bread, beans, juices, and soft drinks. She spends some ten hours a day selling her products. The objective of the loan is to invest in working capital in order to stock her store with food products. She will do this so that she will be able to get better income in the not so distant future. Yohana Del Carmen is grateful for the help the Kiva lenders give to people with scarce resources and in poor countries like Nicaragua so that they can have a decent way of earning a living.
