Bacilia Esperanza's story
Bacilia is 40 years old. She is a plucky woman who completed primary school. Together with her husband and children, they have overcome problems thanks to their dedication to growing vegetables (potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower). Bacilia has a lot of experience with this work as she learned the trade from her parents 25 years ago and has been doing it ever since. This is currently the family's only source of income and it has helped them to overcome problems and to move forward in life. The family owns the work they land, thanks to Bacilia and her husband's effort and dedication over the years. The land is only a few metres from their home. Bacilia works hard alongside her husband so that their children do not leave their studies and so that they have a better future and better opportunities in life. Bacilia sells her products through intermediaries who come to the area, as well as to neighbours and they even travel to commercial areas to sell their products. Bacilia is currently applying for help to invest in the potato crops by buying fertliser, manure and fumigation pumps for them. This will help keep them healthy and free from plagues. Bacilia's dream is to improve her home, to grow potatoes in bulk and to be the best grower in the area. However, her priority is to see her children become professionals, with a better education and thus a better future.
