Mpilo's story

Mpilo is a student on the Maharishi Institute in Johannesburg. He is applying for a loan to pay for his last semester of tuition fees and living expenses. Mpilo is 27 years old and was asked the following questions by a member of the Institute: What do you plan to do after graduation? “To be an 'intrepreneur' and, after getting experience, then an entrepreneur. The most important thing is to develop poor communities and create jobs. (Most people from home are unemployed because of lack of education and money to proceed with schooling).” List 3 long-term goals: “Have a complex or mall in my home town and my own business. Help people who need help. Develop rural communities.” Why is education important to you? “To have a better tomorrow and see life in a different perspective. The most important thing about education is for me to pass it through to others who need it.” Why are you applying for the Kiva Loan? “So that I can have enough money for transport to get to school and work daily, especially be punctual. What are you hobbies? “Playing chess, Scrabble, watching movies and table tennis.” Where are you from? “From Bushbuckridge (Mpumulanga) and I come from a family of four. My background is not that bad.” Are you the first family member to attend University? Do you have any other siblings in school? “No. No, she is working”
