Estrellas Unidas Group's story
Thomas is 64 years old and lives in a village in the Intibucá municipality with his wife and their five children. Thomas has worked in agriculture since he was young and it is his only source of income. He grows potatoes, beans, corn, tomatoes, and other crops and works whatever time is necessary. This loan for 7,000 lempiras is his third with the group. He plans to use the loan to purchase potato seeds, fertilizer, and pay laborers for the potato and bean harvest. Loans help improve his production by giving him good help with his crops. His plan is to continue improving production and also improve his quality of life with the income he earns. He is the president of the community bank he belongs to called Estrellas Unidas, which is made up of eight members who live in the same community and work in agriculture. Of the group, only seven are requesting this loan. In the photo, they are identified as follows: on the left, María is dressed in blue, followed by Santos in a gray shirt, Felipe in a long sleeved plaid shirt, Juliana in a green dress, Thomas in a plaid shirt, and Ruperta on the right in an orange and yellow print dress. Martin is not in the photo. The total loan for the group is for 34,500 lempiras. They are all going to invest in potato and bean crops.
