but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase and to set up a dedicated oven for stained glass production.

Khitam's story

Khitam is 32 years old. She lives with her husband and two children (aged five and six) in Shu’afat, north-east Jerusalem. She has ten years experience in glass cutting and fashioning. She has received business training from MATI, a business development foundation in Jerusalem, and is now keen to develop her own business specialising in stained glass. There is a growing market in stained glass in the city, but none is produced in East Jerusalem. This is the niche that Khitam would like to fill; she is aware of a circle of architects and interior designers interested in her product. Khitam currently works in a glass centre, and has secured a rent free place to set up a dedicated oven for stained glass production from her current boss, on the understanding that she will cover for him as necessary. This arrangement greatly increases the potential and reduces the risk of the project. Khitam hopes to expand the project to provide training in stained glass fashioning to youth in the area, whose prospects are otherwise limited.
