A loan helped to buy apples.

Badegna Group's story

The Badegna group is made up of six married women and one widow, who, on average, are 34 years old and have three children. They live in traditional, extended families in the Heremakono Nord neighborhood of the town of Bougouni. They know each other from neighborhood, friendship, and business ties. To increase their financial capacity in order to better conduct their commerce, they joined the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso, with whom they are on their second loan. Their first loan was repaid correctly. This group of women sell apples. Mama, who is the third woman from the right in the photo, plans to buy two cartons of apples from the wholesalers in Bamako with her loan. She makes her sales in a market and from home, for cash and credit to customers who are men and women. She hopes to earn an average monthly profit of 50,000 francs CFA, which will be invested in their businesses and used to repay the loan.
