Moussa's story

Born in August 1978 in N’Golo-Diassa - a village about six kilometres from the town of Sikasso - Moussa is married and the father of two children. He lives with his wife and children in a large, traditional extended family in the village of his birth, in the borough of Sikasso (the third largest administrative region of the Republic of Mali). Moussa is a mechanic by trade and has been doing this for over eight years. In order to assist his customers to obtain quality secondhand spare parts for their vehicles, he also buys and sells spare parts alongside the main business. He is much sought after by his customers, due to the quality of his parts. To meet the needs of his ever growing customer base, he decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso micro-finance institution three years ago, and with whom he is now seeking his sixth personal loan. The previous loans have all been fully paid back. With this new loan, he intends to purchase a large quantity of spare parts - in particular connecting rods, camshafts, pistons and wheel rims. The items are bought onsite, with him dismantling scrapped vehicles to sell for spare parts in his workshop. Thanks to this loan, he plans to make a monthly profit of 140,000 FCFA which will be used to contribute towards the family's expenses, to pay the loan interest, and to invest the remainder in the business.
