Khanda's Group's loan finished fundraising, but these other borrowers need your support

A loan helped to pay for the renovation of her sewing work area.

Khanda's Group's story

Khanda is a young Iraqi woman. She is 28 years old, married and a mother of two children. With limited career options due to cultural restrictions and domestic constraints, Khanda is one of the many Iraqi woman who is working from home, using her sewing skills to generate some income and participate in meeting the financial needs of her family. Khanda has five years' experience with the small, home-based sewing and tailoring activity. She makes custom-ordered small, fabric household items and dresses for women and children. She would like to improve her work conditions and renovate her work area. She hopes that the nicer atmosphere will make the ordering experience for her customers a little more pleasent, and will also allow her to have a nice place to work on her orders. To be able to pay for the renovation work, she took a loan from Relief International - Microfinance Iraq. Relief International - Microfinance Iraq offers "Group loans" for clients unable to provide a guarantor - thereby unable to apply for a loan as an individual. As a group, the members collectively guarantee the loan. Groups consist of three to five clients and each client is evaluated on his or her repayment capacity. All group members receive the same loan amount as the individual with the lowest repayment capacity in the group.
