Cruzloma (Cuenca) Group's story
The Cruzloma communal bank is made up of seven women who live in the area of Descanso in the city of Cuenca. This region is surrounded by several mountains, which give it beautiful landscapes. The green fields give the area a special touch. The local people work in various economic activities, such as agriculture, raising livestock, and commerce. The members of this communal bank are tenacious women who fight daily to provide for their families and improve the financial stability of their households. One of the members of this group is María Esperanza. She has been a member of the communal bank for 4 years. She is 62 years old. She is a single mother of two children, both of whom are adults, married and living independently. She lives alone in her own house. María Esperanza makes a living selling a variety of dry grains such as corn, wheat, barley, coffee beans, etc. She has her own stall in a market in the city where she works from Sunday to Sunday, without a fixed schedule. She also raises pigs and cattle at home. She will invest this loan in the purchase of dry grains in order to continue growing her business. Her goal is to expand her business much more.
