Bubaare Women's Group's story
Bubaare women’s group is located in the middle of Ibanda town. The group comprises of only women whose major activity is small scale trade. They fall into different categories including divorcees, widows, single mothers and a few who are married. Flavia is a single mother of five children, all of whom are in school. She also looks after her two nephews who are orphans. She lost her husband in a car accident two years ago. Flavia is a small scale trader who sells vegetables in a local market with capital of 100,000 UGX. She supplements her vegetable business with her poultry farm which she resorted to after losing her husband in 2010 so that she could look after her children and take them to school which she does single handedly. She will use the loan to buy more chickens to rear, to buy more stock to expand her vegetable business and also to pay school fees. The main challenge for Flavia is theft around the village and wild animals which eat her chickens after she has invested her money in them. This affects her working capital. Sometimes she and her children fall sick which reduces labor to work on her businesses. Despite all the challenges, Flavia is a very hardworking and determined woman looking forward to changing the future of her children by giving them a good education.
