Sinat's Group's story
Sinat, 30, is a rural villager from Battambang Province’s Moung Russey district. She has two children, one schoolchild and one too young for schooling. To cover her daily food and other necessary expenses of the family, she owns one hectare of rice cropping farmland and another hectare of sesame planting land in addition to her current occupation as a school teacher in the local area. Involved in her current business for several years, she is able to earn up to 28,900 KHR per day. Now, she is a fourth-time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). Her past loan that she has fully paid back has helped her upkeep her living standards gently. Since she is in need of working capital, she formed a group of four members to seek a new loan. She and one of her fellow group members are seeking 1,400,000 KHR each whereas the remaining two members are seeking 1,000,000 KHR each. As a leader, she will use her portion to pay for harvesting fees and to buy fertilizer for her sesame field. She hopes to gather her cash-crop yield on time and make more profit for her children’s sake.
