La Churonita (Cuenca) Group's story

La Churonita is a communal bank that is made up of 7 women who live in a beautiful area of the city of Cuenca. This city is the third biggest city in the country. Since December of 1999, it has been a World Cultural Heritage Site and it has architectural and cultural wealth. The members of this bank are women who are fighters, kind and friendly. They are always seeking to improve their financial stability and get their families ahead. One of the members of this group is Mónica. She lives in the center of Cuenca and is taking out her first loan with the La Churonita communal bank. She was invited to join by a neighbor. Mónica is 34 years old. She is separated from her husband but in her marriage she mad one daughter who is 16 and goes to high school in town. The house she lives in is her mother's, but she lives independently. Mónica spends most of her time at home, but in order to get ahead and improve her financial stability, she works hard Sunday to Sunday with out a set schedule in her store. She has had this business for 8 years and right now it is going well for her. She is going to invest her loan in buying grocery products to increase the amount of products she has in her store. Her goal is to lean to drive and buy a vehicle.
