Patricia Jacqueline's story

The Guillermo Balda communal bank meets every 15 days in the Montecristi canton known for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its crafts which are renowned on a national and international level. It is home to the famous Panama hats. Patricia, 32, lives in this area, she has separated from her partner, but from her previous relation she has two children of 11 and 15 years old, both of whom study in secondary school. To get her children ahead in life, through the fruit of honest work, Patricia carries out domestic work in a house in the area. However, to obtain additional resources other than what she earns in this job, she also works in sales, selling all types of clothes from door-to-door, making the most of her free time and weekends in which she has more time. She sells her merchandise on credit and collects payment every fortnight; it is thanks to loans that she was able to set up this business, enabling her to earn something to help her get her children ahead. This loan is to buy trousers, shirts and all types of clothes that she sells. She has been with this communal bank from the beginning and she likes it because with the loans that she is able to get ahead in life on her own with her children. Her dream is that her children become professionals.
