Mussarat's Group's story
Mussarat is a 58-year-old widow with 5 sons and 2 daughters. Her husband died of diabetes when her children were at an early age. Since then she has been looking after her children and paying all household expenses alone. She faced a very difficult time after the death of her husband as she is the only earning person in the family. Mussarat owns a chicken shop in the market nearby, which is the only source of income for the family. She sells chickens and eggs in her shop. In spite of working full time, she takes care of all the housework and makes sure that she can fulfill all of her children's needs. All of the income that comes from her chicken shop goes to the household expenses, so she is unable to save any amount for her children’s future. She has requested a loan from Kiva's partner, BRAC Pakistan, to purchase chickens and eggs from the poultry farm for her shop. Mussarat hopes that the loan will be beneficial for them.
