Kantiguiya Group's story
Kantiguiya is a group from the Danaya association in N’tentou. It comprises 4 married women who know one another through family links and the neighbourhood. They are 25 years old and have 3 children each on average; they have different business activities such as the sale of condiments, or of clothing as is the case with Massaran - who is the person on the far left of the photo. They live in large traditional families in N’tentou (the Koulikoro region, Republic of Mali). They have been small traders for several years, and are in high demand for their services. In order to satisfy the growing need of their customers, the group members decided to join Soro Yiriwaso's loan programme one year ago. They are on their second mutual loan. Massaran is skilled at selling clothing. She intends to use her loan to purchase 20 traditional outfits of different types. She buys her stock in Bamako and sells the products in Ouelessebougou, retail, for cash and credit to both men and women. She hopes to make a monthly profit of 25,000FCFA - enough to allow her to repay the loan and to invest in her business.
