Sophal's Group's story

Sophal is 64 years old and lives with her husband and six children in a rural village of the Ek Phnom district. Out of all her children, she still has one child who is still in school. Selling snacks is the main source of her family’s income while her husband has been working for others for a fee for about thirty-five years. Her business earns her family a daily income of about 58,000 KHR, but she is able to save 13,000 KHR each day. Sophal has been a member of VisionFund for five cycles already while the other members have been with VisionFund for three or four cycles. Sophal has successfully used the previous loans to better support her family with enough food. She is now leading her group of three to apply for a loan. As the leader, she will use her portion to buy snacks to sell. She hopes to earn more income from her business so as to improve her family’s living conditions.
