Maria Lourdes's story
María Lourdes is 57 years old, a single mother of two children ages 12 and 18, both of whom are studying. She is from Leon, a town located in the western part of the country. María Lourdes is a responsible, hardworking woman with a desire for self improvement. Ever since she was young she has struggled in life. Due to a lack of economic resources she was never able to complete her dreams of obtaining a university education. This has led her to fight day after day to ensure that her children have the necessary education to complete a university education. Thanks to her entrepreneurial spirit she has her own source of income. She sells retail merchandise which consists of children's clothing, and clothing for adults, such as pants, shirts, dresses, shorts, skirts, undergarments, and linens. Her goal for this loan is to invest in working capital and stock her business by purchasing new merchandise and satisfying the demands of her customers. In this way, in the near future, she will increase her income. María Lourdes is grateful for the assistance that Kiva donors provide to people of lesser means, and to impoverished countries such as Nicaragua, in opening up opportunities for dignified work.
