Gocha's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase a car and equipment for providing natural gas installation services.

Gocha's story

Gocha is 27 years old and from the Khelvachauri district, West Georgia. He lives with his wife, their infant daughter, his mother and his brother. Gocha requested a loan from local financial institutions several times, for a family business start-up, but without any success. His loan request was rejected every time, because of low income and the family’s poor living conditions. The only source of income for the family is agriculture. In particular, they have a milk cow, whose milk is used in cheese production. Besides that, they have a plot of agricultural land, where different kinds of vegetables are grown. They sell the harvested produce and cheese locally, in an open market at a good price. The income is hardly enough to provide food for the family. According to Credo estimations, the family belongs to the subsistence poor category. Gocha requested a loan from Credo to start up a business. His loan request was approved in the frame of a new joint initiative of Kiva and Credo. Start-up loan program envisages provision of business start-up and restart-up credits with soft conditions to the country's rural poor, who do not have access to credit products, being regarded as “high risk borrowers” because of low income. With the received credit Gocha will purchase a car and equipment for natural gas installation. He will be able to get orders and install natural gas in families' homes. He hopes his project will be profitable and the new business initiative, financed with the Kiva Start-up loan, will significantly improve the living conditions of his family.
