Shamim's Group's story

Shamim is the wife of N. M., who is 54 years old. Shamim and her family live in a small city named Arifwala, Pakistan. Shamim owns a two room brick house, and she is a mother of two sons. She successfully completed her frist loan from Asasah, a microfinance institute of Pakistan. Her husband is a mason by profession, and she is applying for a loan for her husband, who wants to buy the masonry tools to expand his business.

She has been joined in her group by a few more members who are: Gulzaran baji (Baji is a term meaning "elder sister" in Urdu) wants a loan for her fruit business; Amna baji wants a loan for her fruit business; Sharifan baji wants a loan for her wood business; and Kosar baji wants a loan to buy electronic items for her husband’s electric shop.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in their own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
