Djekafo (Parler La Même Voix) Group's story
Djekafo is a group of women who come from Koutiala and know each other well. They live in large, traditional families, have an average age of 37, are married and have at least 6 children. The women in the group sell various items such as pagnes (colourful and decorative West African cloth), shoes, firewood and clothing. The members decided to join Soro Yiriwaso's credit program in order to increase the size of their businesses. They are on their second group loan. Bébé, a member of Djekafo, is the first person sitting on the left of the picture and sells various items: clothing, children's toys, shoes, etc. She plans to use her loan to buy 5 sets of clothes and a dozen fashionable children's toys. She gets these products at the Koutiala market. She resells the items to a diverse retail clientèle for cash, from her home and at the market. Bébé expects to make a profit of 150 000 francs from this round of sales. The women will use part of their business income to cover their personal expenses, and part of it to increase their business, as well as to repay their loans.
