Zhidmad (Cuenca) Group's story
Zhidmad is a communal bank that is made up of 8 women who are fiends and neighbors in the same community. They live in the Zhidmad parish in Cuenca. It is surrounded by a lot of vegetation and there you can appreciate and enjoy peace outside the city. Its people, like all of the members of this communal bank, keep the flame of their culture and traditions alive. They do work like raising animals, farming and also work as merchants. Some of them go to the city every day to do different economic activities. All of these women have something in common, and that is the wish to get ahead. All of the members of this communal bank are taking out loans again because they were able to make good earnings with the previous loans,. They were able to improve their economic situation and had no problem with the payments and made them on time. One of the members of this group is Luz Marlene. She is 22, married and has a 3 year old daughter. Her husband works every day in construction as a bricklayer. They do not own their own home and live in her grandmother's house. They share household expenses with her and keep her company. Luz Marlene takes care of her home, and since she lives in the country, she raises cattle and sells their milk. She also raises pigs, chickens and guinea pigs. She also farms and what she produces is just for household consumption. She will invest the new loan in buying chickens and feed for all of her animals. Her goal is to build her own home.
